Yes not sure how that happened but it explains where my post went.

For anyone watching this thread, unfortunately the parts that Priscilla were told were not correct.

She's still looking to see if we can find the correct thing to order.

Jason indicated that one of the parts sent had a bag of many screws for a laptop but surprisingly "not the correct thing".  We regret this but will continue searching.  Would any of you members have the correct part number?  Thanks.

I'm looking specifically for desktop (SFF) screws.  I'm not surprised that the laptop screw package didn't have what I need, shock mounting screws aren't used in any laptop that I'm aware of.

Ah, that may be the problem!  Gosh, I missed that detail.  Thanks for clarifying.  Now there's hope.  Let's see what's in the bag of desktop screws.

Could these be the ones?

HP 800 USDT Kit...

Needing this sorted out myself for 2 HP EliteDesk 800 SFF desktops...

that link claims they are compatible with:
HP Compaq 6000 Pro SFF PC
HP EliteDesk 800 G1 USDT PC

and the 800 G1 USDT is not a SFF.
Though, the screws do look close.

Well we've reached the end of the road.

Priscilla has been told these screws are not available for direct purchase.  They are only available when you buy a drive directly from HP for this specific machine.

This is very disheartening news in my opinion.  I'm basically limited to only the aftermarket parts (and prices) forced upon me by HP.  I don't know the current HP SSD drive prices, but the last time I looked they were easily 30% or more above the cost of that same drive from another vendor, and of course you are limited to only the manufactures they choose.

Big name manufactures have made huge strides in making their machines less proprietary, but this is definitely a step backwards.

Let this be a word of warning, if you plan to change your system from whatever type of drive you currently have to another type, you might want to make sure that option is really available to you before you purchase.

To put it as simply as I can.  That sucks!

Sorry.. I linked the wrong one..

http://www.arp.com/warp/1059/DE/en/catalog/productDetail/955948.html;jsessionid=cuj9bguo71t21d8erxx8...

There is the one for the 800 SFF.. but alas it is too difficult to tell if they are the correct screws and the price for the item is a bit too much to "hope" for it being correct..

I'm guessing this would be a tray to fit into the CD-rom slot if you wanted to mount an additional HD there.

Its a SSD.... Use Velcro and call it a day :)

It's sad, but I resorted some something very close.

I'm just researching HP offer to buy some desktops. And same as you - I wanted to buy SSD for my own (from Intel). Point for HP it's not so hard to find manual and you're able to find some traps that HP have for you. I was looking for information what exactly screws are needed to mount 2.5 SSD - and this is the way I found your post. Useful post for me, bacause now I'm sure it's a trap. For myself I've got HP Z230 and had no problem with installing 2.5 SSD without any additional stuff.

Hubert, thank you for your feedback.  Since I get a number of inquiries behind the scene regarding screws to mount a non-HP 2.5 SSD, I will ping you for further clarification.

I'm guessing the Z line from HP has a 2.5 bay in it for these drives.  I noticed when I received one of the mini desktops, not the SSF, they came with 2.5 in HDD, which was an easy swap to SSDs.  Unfortunately, the SSFs come with a normal sized HDD, and therefore require a bracket and screws.

sambutler

I too have ordered a ProDesk and went to replace the bundled 3.5" disk with a 2.5" SSD. We're in the UK and I'm going to call the HP store, but I'm not happy there are no screws in the case and no screws apparently available for purchase. When I say "not happy" that's because I'm being polite in a public forum.

Remove the aluminium ring from the blue rubber part

Now carefully tear the blue rubber element off the screw.

Now just put the aluminium ring back onto the rubber part

Finally just use 8 mm long fine threaded M3 screws and you're ready to attach the element to your SSD!

Here's an alternative, easier way of how to separate the blue damping element when the screws are still attached to the old HDD. Please don't forget to remove the metal ring first!Just thear the blue rubber carefully off of the already loosened screw (so that you can grab the rubber easier)!

Interesting idea, as long as you're only replacing, not adding another drive.

I too am having this same issue with HP. I have had several calls with their spare parts department and after waiting for approx. a week for them to find the product codes I needed they provided me with a quote for the screws to mount a 2.5" drive in the 2.5" bay.

$39 - yes you read right, HP want to charge $39 for the screws. Initially, the quote said $39 per screw however, when I asked them do double check this they came back a said it is actually $39 for 4 screws.

So if you want to pay almost $10 for a screw that would probibly cost less than a cent to manufature call HP and ask for part number 594220-001 Description: SPS-GROMMET HDD ISO LT BLU ENVIRO M3

Personally, I think this is shameful of HP to do. they are effectivly charging an exorbitant price for something that should have already been with the chassis. Its like a dealership selling someone a car with no wheels. Then, when the customer asks for some wheels the dealer ship replies with 'that car has special wheels only I can provide, they will cost $10,000 each. have a nice day.'

Not exactly, it's like selling the car with wheels, but when you want to put on different rubber, you need to buy new wheels, i.e. the computer is completely usable as it came - we are trying to upgrade after the fact.

Brad1632

Thats true, it's probibly more like buying a car with 4 door shaped holes in the sides and you have to pay to actually make use of the door shaped holes the original car came with :-)

This kit contains 40 screws for mounting 2.5" SSD's in a Prodesk 600: http://www8.hp.com/be/nl/products/desktops/product-detail.html?oid=5399819

I used it for installing Samsung EVO 840 SSD's.
